Cats Slide to Ninth in Del Walker Intercollegiate
365 (+15) third round bumps Arizona five spots down the leader board
TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona men's golf team carded a 1067 (+17) and finished ninth in the Del Walker Intercollegiate, a 16 team event.
After a stellar second round put the Cats back into contention in the tournament, Arizona shot its worst round of the tournament to fall from fourth to ninth.
Colorado St. earned a Three-peat at the event, becoming the first ever team to win the Del Walker three times in a row. The Rams won in convincing fashion; their 1030 (-20) was good enough for an nine stroke victory. Long Beach St. carded the lowest round of the tournament by any team, 336 (-14), to jump from fifth to second. No. 14 Oregon, the only ranked team coming into the event, finished third at eight under.
Tarquin MacManus, who was in position to pick up his second top 20 finish in three events this season, fell out of the top 20 when his 72 (+2) third round took him from T11 to T21. MacManus was one under for the tournament.
Michael Drake of Long Beach St. struck a 66 (-4) in the third round to win the tournament. Drake was in fourth to start the round.
The Del Walker Intercollegiate was contested at the Virginia Golf Club in Long Beach, Calif., a par 70, 6,578 yard course.
Up Next: Arizona will head to the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif. Nov. 6-8.
