TUCSON - The Arizona women's tennis team got off to a fast start Saturday afternoon against the visiting No. 23 Washington Huskies, but failed to close out, dropping the match, 4-3.
The Wildcats (6-4) took the doubles point by taking all three doubles matches. In position #1, Claire Rietsch and Natasha Marks defeated Venise Chan and Denise Dy 8-5.
The duo of Danielle Steinberg and Sarah Landsman clinched the doubles point by beating Aleksandra Malovic and Lina Xu 9-7.
In singles action, Steinberg defeated Chan 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in position #1.
Washington's Malovic clinched the victory for the Huskies when she defeated Arizona's Rietsch 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 in position #5.
Arizona will be in action again when they travel to Fresno, Calif. to take on Penn at 12:00 p.m. Tucson time.
