Recap
Head Coach Steve Desimone, California
"We played well. I'm pleased with the good start we had. We sagged a little in the middle, but made birdies on the back end and finished five under. For tomorrow, we just need some solid putts to get us right back in there. Today, we knew what we had to do to get back in this, and I'm proud of the guys that they were able to execute."
Michael Weaver, California
"As a team, we're doing pretty well. Myself, I just did okay. I didn't make my putts, and that hurt. The team is doing better than yesterday, and we should be in good shape to put a good round tomorrow and advance."
Head Coach Greg Sands, Texas Tech
"We just couldn't get over the hump today. We made too many mistakes. With a good round tomorrow, we should be able to accomplish our goals and move on."
Nils Floren, Texas Tech
"It was a pretty up-and-down day for me. I really never felt good. I missed a couple of putts, and was hitting a little cautious. I'm fortunate that I didn't have to shoot more. It wasn't too bad, and wasn't too good."
Head Coach Rick LaRose, Arizona
"I'm really proud of the guys. They hung in there, showed great effort. We have one more day to get the guys where we need to be. It was a gritty performance today, and we weren't on our `A' game, but we hung in there, put up some good numbers, and I couldn't be more proud."
Tarquin MacManus, Arizona
"It was a pretty average day. We started poor, but fought back. I finished pretty well today, and I hope that tomorrow I can start off as I finished. I'm really proud of how the guys did today."
Jonathan Khan, Arizona
"I played well. I think I had five birdies. I bogeyed the last hole though. I putted pretty well and I hit some good shots. Coach said he is proud of us and we didn't shoot ourselves out of it."
Juan Pablo Hernandez, Arizona
"I played pretty well. I played solid. I had two birdies on holes No. 3 and No. 5. I parred the rest. I didn't have any bogeys. I hit the ball average and putted pretty well."
Head Coach Jeffrey Thomas, Liberty
"We struggled a bit. Chase (Marinell) played well, but some of the others struggled. We just need to be more consistent going into the final round."
Chase Marinell, Liberty
"Today went well. It was a better start than yesterday. Yesterday I had to battle back, but today I was in a good mood the whole day. The course isn't too easy, and there are so many good players out here. As a freshman, I think I'm doing pretty well."
Andrew Colvin, Liberty
"I had a rough front nine, but I came back on the back nine. I just stayed patient and I knew I needed to make some birdies. I knew where my team was at. I just trusted myself and had confidence that my putts would fall. I played pretty well yesterday and today."
Head Coach Matt Thurmond, Washington
"In most tournaments that last this long, there are days that don't go your way. We were able to survive today; even through we didn't have a very good round. We hung in there, and kept ourselves in it, and I'm very happy with that. The seniors on our squad have been in and out of the lineup all season, and today they led us, and I am especially proud of that. Our junior, Jens Bracht is in his first tournament in seven months, and he is doing very well, and I'm extremely proud of him."
Tze Huang Choo, Washington
"Today definitely wasn't as smooth. Yesterday I was putting better. I missed a few today, and didn't have any birdies on the front nine, but I did get a couple on the back. I told myself that I had to be patient, and the birdies would come, and they did. I bogeyed the last hole, but I can't complain. Hopefully, we'll finish this weekend in a position to make our run through to nationals."
Kevin Spooner, Washington
"I had a pretty disappointing start, missed a few putts that I was making yesterday, but I battled back. Through the front nine I was two over, but I was able to get to two under through the back nine. Getting myself back to even was pretty big."
John Geiberger, Head Coach, Pepperdine
"Josh's (Anderson) round was big for us. We are in the mix right now and it's within our reach. Our goal is to win the whole thing, so we will see how that stacks up."
Parker Page, Pepperdine
"I got off to a good start. I was shaky in the middle. I just tried to hang on through the last part. I played pretty solid which made it hard to make bogeys. I just tried to play steady throughout."
John MacArthur, Pepperdine
"I hit the ball super well today. I only missed one fairway. If you do that then you are going to do well. I struggled on the ground but I was one under. Hole No. 18 is a really good hole. There is water on both sides. It's the toughest hole and most challenging, but it's my favorite because of the length of it and the uphill second shot."
Alex Moore, Oregon State
"I played okay today. My short game kept me in it. I played well, except for the last hole, but I think I have a chance tomorrow. On No. 7, No. 9, and No. 18 if you play those holes well you're going to have a good round. They are demanding holes. I just tried to make as many birdies as I could. I just focused on those three holes and let the other ones take care of themselves, since those are the three most difficult holes."
Cameron Peck, Texas A&M
"The big thing was that I didn't make any bogeys. If you don't make any bogeys you're going to do well here. In the first round, I struggled, then I came back and posted a good score. I looked at my mistakes and just improved on them today."
Ryan Donovan, Head Coach, San Diego State
"Overall I thought we played really solid. We started out rough. We were five over par on the first four holes and we slipped to eighth place. The guys dug deep and never quit. I'm proud of how the guys stayed composed and finished strong."
Johan Carlsson, San Diego State
"I played okay. I putted really well. On the back nine, I got pretty hot with my putter. Here you have to putt well and I made every putt I looked at today."
Neal Stafford, Head Coach, Missouri State
"Will (Hogan) played a lot better today. He had better yardage into the greens. He stayed back, giving himself fuller shots and better control. He managed his game better and hit similar shots like yesterday. He played smarter today and took better shots. He did a nice job."
Will Hogan, Missouri State
"The second round went well. I hit and drove the ball pretty well. I had an eagle on the sixth hole. Then I hit the ball out of bounds on the second, but overall I hit the ball well and had a lot of birdie chances. A couple of putts could have went in, but I finished well."
Brian Watts, Head Coach, Army
"I think we played much better today. We just didn't finish. We had our same game plan. He had some opportunities. We just made a few more putts today."
Anthony Kim, Army
"I hit it okay. I putted poorly. The greens were pretty fast. On No. 2, I had a good drive, the wind picked up and drove the ball to the right. The wind kept switching directions. Tomorrow I just have to not think about anything and just play."
Matt Krembel, Army
"I hung in there. I didn't putt too well. That's what hindered my game. I had a good up and down on No. 18. I was one over on No. 16, but then I bogeyed hole No. 17 and pared on No. 18. I caught a birdie on No. 14 to get back to one over."
Alan Kaufman, Head Coach, UAB
"Jason (Shufflebotham) struggled today with his game. He wasn't his usual self. The last hole was tough. He's a fine player and he will bounce back."
Todd Miller, Head Coach, Brigham Young
"Zac's (Blair) making enough birdies. He shot even par, and on this course you can't make bogeys. He's just making some simple mistakes."
Chris Baloga, Head Coach, Loyola, Md.
"We had a really good start today. We had a few issues on holes 10 through 13. Our No. 1 guy shot even. We played better today than yesterday and we hope to do well tomorrow."
Jon Ross, Loyola, Md.
"I started off great. I was three under after seven. I just couldn't make any putts. I started well but then it just stopped. I just have to start making my putts and keep the ball out of the water."
Patrick McCormich, Loyola, Md.
"I hit the ball better and I drove the ball a lot better today. My putts weren't falling. I'm happy with how I played. I played solid."
