TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team slipped to 26th place after Wednesday's second round at the 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
The Wildcats tallied a 310 (+22) total in the second round and is in 26th place after 36 holes with a 612 (+36) tally. One UA player posted a round at par or better at Karsten Creek Golf Club, but red numbers continue to be the rarity, as just two teams remain under par through two rounds.
Georgia Tech leads the field at three-under 573, one shot ahead of UCLA and five ahead of Illinois. Georgia and Alabama round out the top five places at 579 (+3) and 580 (+4), respectively.
Louisiana State's John Peterson leads all individuals at five-under 139. He fired a seven-under 65 on Wednesday.
Arizona senior Tarquin MacManus continues to lead the Cats, as he is tied for 62nd place at six-over 150. The native of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, carded a 77 Wednesday. Teammate Jonathan Khan shot a 79 and is tied for 78th place at eight-over 152.
Senior Stefan Cox fired an even-par 72 Wednesday and moved into a tie for 93rd place at 10-over 154. His level-par round was UA's first of the tournament, and moved him 50 spots up the leader board. For Cox, it was his third round at par or better in his last four played.
Juan Pablo Hernandez is in a tie for 126th place at 14-over 158, while Erik Oja is in a tie for 141st place at 18-over 162, to round out the UA participants.
The 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships continue through Sunday at Karsten Creek Golf Course, a par-72, 7,416-yard layout.
