TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcat No. 12 men's and No. 14 women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Stanford Invitational and the Sun Angel Classic. The Wildcats won one event in Palo Alto, Calif. and Arizona's throwers had a strong day of competition as well in Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona's quartet of sophomore Shapri Romero, senior Echos Blevins, sophomore Tamara Pridgett and junior Georganne Moline ran the 4x400-meter relay. They were responsible for Arizona's lone win of the day, clocking a time of 3:35.60.

"I'm really excited about how the women's 4x400-meter relay team ran today," Harvey said. "They kept Tamara Pridgett at the third leg and they ran 3:35.60 and crushed Stanford, which is always a good thing in my mind. We still have a lot more in the tank in that relay."

"We have some things we need to fix," Moline said. "We did decent but there are definitely things we could fix. (Individually) I thought I was going too fast and I was going to settle. But before I settled I caught myself and gave it all I had. I felt a little bit of wind but I felt good, definitely felt good."

In the men's 4x100-meter relay, Arizona ran with freshman Thomas Moronta, junior Chris McSwain, sophomore Sean Delfani and junior Clifton Leake. They clocked a time of 41.06, good for fifth place overall. The women's 4x100-meter relay team disqualified at the first exchange.

Romero ran a personal-best time of 24.41 in the women's 200-meter dash, good for second place in her heat and eighth overall. Pridgett took 13th with a time of 24.69. In the men's 200-meter dash, McSwain took second place with a time of 21.29. In the men's 800-meter race, junior JamesEichberger took second place with a time of 1:48.35, the second-best time of his career. In the women's 100-meter hurdles final, Senior Dahlys Marshall clocked a time of 13.75, good for fifth place.

In the men's triple jump invitational, freshman Jovon Cunningham took fourth place with a mark of 51-5.75 (15.69m). Sophomore Alex Weatherly cleared 12-1.5 (3.70m), good for seventh place in the pole vault.

"We had a lot of very good things happen today," head coach Fred Harvey said. "We also had some downs, the women's 4x100-meter relay not getting the stick around the track was disappointing because that is one of the primary events we think we can be pretty good at. James Eichberger had a big seasonal best and looked really good and we're getting a lot of progress from him in that area. Overall, today was an excellent competition and the two days proved to be pretty valuable for us."

At the Sun Angel Classic, junior Taylor Freeman competed in the discus throw premier division. Freeman took sixth with a toss of 166-5 (50.72m). Junior Alyssa Hasslen earned a seventh-place finish, throwing 164-5 (50.11m). Hasslen took second in the premier divison of the women's shot put, throwing 56-1.75 (16.92m).

On Friday, Arizona sent a contingent of competitors to compete in the Mesa Classic in Mesa, Ariz. Freshman Dylan Souza took first in his heat of the men's 1,500 meters and eighth overall with a time of 4:09.49. Sophomore Noe Ramirez took fourth in the men's 5K with a time of 15:21.45. Senior Chris McGovern had a personal-best mark in the men's shot put, throwing 40-4.25 (12.30m) and earning a sixth-place finish. Senior Liana Fuentes took third in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.71. Junior Taylor Freeman threw 174-7 (53.21m) in the women's discus, good for sixth place. Freeman also threw 177-0 in the women's hammer, good for seventh place.

Arizona will return to the track on April 19 for the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
