BOULDER, Colo. -
Arizona women's tennis (8-7, 0-2) dropped its match against Colorado (6-6, 1-1), 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Tennis Courts.
In the doubles round, UA juniors Akilah James (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Susan Mc Rann (Dublin, Ireland) defeated Quevedo and Watrous , 8-4, to give Arizona the opportunity to win the doubles point.
“This was a poor team performance,” Arizona head coach Vicky Maes said. “We gave up two match points in the third-doubles match that cost us the point.”
In singles, No. 34 junior Lacey Smyth (Oceanside, Calif.) and sophomore Laura Oldham (Sheffield, England) gave Arizona the only points of the match.
Smyth defeated Julyette Steur, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. After dropping her first set, Oldham came back to take the last-two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to record a UA point at the No. 3 spot.
“Our effort was mediocre at best today,” Maes said. “I'm disappointed with the loss and the team is going to need a shift in attitude during practice this week if they want things to turn around.”
Up Next: The Wildcats continue to be on the road as they head to Eugene, Ore., to face the Oregon Ducks on Sunday, Mar. 24, at 11:00 a.m. P.T.
