Women?s Golf Ties for Fourth at Allstate Sugar Bowl

TUCSON, Ariz. University of Arizona women's golf tied for fourth place overall at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational on Tuesday. The Wildcats recorded a final round score of 296 (+8). With the first round's score of 301 (+13) and the second round's score of 295 (+7), Arizona finished at 892 (+28) overall to tie for fourth out of 15 teams.

“The ladies fought hard in extremely difficult conditions,” said head coach Laura Ianello. “However, we are not happy with a fourth-place finish and we have some hard work ahead of us in the next week before we defend our title in Gainesville.”

For the second-straight tournament, freshman Krystal Quihuis finished best for the Wildcats. She finished in a tie for fourth place overall with rounds of 73 (+1), 69 (-3) and 75 (+3) to finish the tournament at one-over-par. She has recorded top-10 finishes in both of the Wildcats' spring events to date.

Senior Kendall Prince tied for 27th overall with scores of 77 (+5), 76 (+4) and 75 (+3) for a 228 (+12). Senior Manon Gidali followed with a 229 (+13) after a final round score of 81 (+9). With previous rounds of 76 (+4) and 72 (E), respectively, she finished in a tie for 33rd place.

Junior Lindsey Weaver and sophomore Wanasa Zhou tied for 35th place overall at 230 (+14). Weaver had rounds of 79 (+7), 78 (+6) and 73 (+1). Zhou had scores of 75 (+3), 82 (+10) and 73 (+1). As an individual, sophomore Jessica Vasilic tied for 69th place overall with rounds of 80 (+8), 76 (+4) and 80 (+8).

No. 17 LSU shot two under par in the final round to win the tournament with a score of 874 (+10). No. 43 Florida and No. 6 UCLA shared second place at 886 (+22). No. 12 Arizona shared fourth place with No. 31 Tulane, the host of the tournament. LSU senior Madelene Sagstrom and sophomore Carolina Nistrup were the co-winner, both shooting a total 212 (-4).

Looking ahead, freshmen Natalia Forero and Quihuis, Vasilic and senior Andrea Vilarasau will compete as individuals at the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by NAU, Feb. 28-March 1 in Sedona, Ariz.  Additionally, Zhou has been granted an exemption to play at the Symetra Tour's Volvik Championship Feb. 27-March 1.

As a team, Arizona will look to defend its title at the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational on Fri.-Sun., March 6-8, in Gainesville, Fla.
