Head Coach Rich Rodriguez
On the Spring Game:
"I wanted to get 90-100 plays and we had 100 plays exactly until the fans took over. I saw some good, saw some ugly but I think they had a little fun. We had a good crowd and we got a lot of things we can build off of.
On quarterback Anu Solomon:
"He was pretty sharp. There were a couple of times he probably could've been a little more decisive in his throws but Anu is a smart guy. He's gotten better and, with a great summer, I think he will be even better come this fall.”
On quarterback Jerrard Randall's improvements:
"More than anything just understanding not only what we do offensively but also what the defense is doing against us and how to attack it. We put a lot on our quarterback, not so much with a bunch of plays, but from an execution standpoint. He had some practices where he showed leaps and bounds above where he was at last year."
On running back Jared Baker:
"Jared has had a great spring. He's putting himself in a position where we are going to put him in the regular rotation. He's got some experience but with Nick Wilson sitting out of the full contact this spring, Jared had the opportunity and he made the most of it."
On playing under the lights on a Friday:
"I like the Friday night deals. We have spring fling going on, a good crowd and it was a little bit cooler for our fans. I hope we can continue to do it. The Pac-12 Networks was very cooperative. I think it's a win-win for us."
On cornerback DaVonte' Neal:
"He's really gotten better every day. At the beginning of the spring, he was still learning. I think he is more confident than he was a month ago. His move over there was to help us at that position immediately and I think he'll do that."
On clarity at the center position:
"I think Carter (Wood) has been banged up a little bit but he has the most experience. I think Zach (Hemmila) has had a good spring and gotten better. David (Catalano) is a new guy that, once he gets his snaps down, is going to have a chance. That position is still wide open going into the fall. Carter (Wood) has played a little bit. He is a really competitive guy and we will see what he takes hold of this summer."
On the defense:
"They had a couple big plays. We were holding a lot of guys out of the first couple series. Scooby (Wright III) didn't play after the warm up. Reggie (Gilbert) was in there for two or three plays. We didn't play some of the guys defensively as much because we know what they can do. But I think overall we found some guys that we need to get in the rotation. Hopefully they will work hard this summer and be ready in August."
On the offense:
"I think we have a really good grasp on what we are doing. We were really vanilla. Early in the last week or two of practice, as far as plays, we had a lot of variety. I think we can add more. We were more focused on execution and technique and working on some particular skills. I think there is a lot we can do and we don't want to overburden our guys mentally. But I think we can play faster than we ever have before.”
On personnel in the backfield:
"We'll use Tyrell (Johnson) and Samajie (Grant) and some of those other guys that have some skills at wideout and running back. We'll use them in both positions."
Quarterback Anu Solomon
On his comfort with the offensive line:
"I am much more comfortable. When you add Freddie (Tagaloa) in there, he plays a huge part in the offense. He gives us a lot of time on my backside, and that really gives the quarterback more enjoyable situations. He is just one of those people that you see and say 'I am not messing with him'. For us as a quarterback, we are just blessed to have him on our side."
On his touchdown to Cayleb Jones:
"When you are on the goal line, they will drop eight so you have more guys running around. You have to improvise, and Cayleb (Jones) does what Cayleb does. I saw him in the corner of the end zone and I tried to get the ball to him. Cayleb does a really good job of knowing when plays are breaking down, and he finds me. He is kind of like a point guard on the basketball court in that he always looks for the ball. He is a big target so you cannot miss him."
On what he worked on most during the offseason:
"Game management and making sure I am keeping an eye on the down and distance, and what kind of situation it is. If we are down by eight on fourth-and-15, and I throw the ball away, that is something I have to work on. I am still struggling with that, but what I am doing now is getting in the film room with Coach (Rod Smith) and working. On the practice field, it just takes repetition."
Offensive Lineman Carter Wood
On spring practices:
“Spring is a time for everyone to improve on everything, especially the offensive line because it is five guys having to work as one and it is a great time for us to learn how to play together.”
Receiver David Richards
On Anu Solomon:
“I think Anu has developed more and he knows the offense, its ins and outs, and knows the right decisions to make on each play. Every time I go past the weight room, (Anu) is in there, and I think he is doing a great job of being a leader.”
On the group of receivers:
“I think (the receivers) complement each other very well. We have tall receivers, short, and fast. We are a dynamic group.”
