No. 41 Arizona Falls to No. 4 UCLA on Senior Day

TUCSON, Ariz. – The 41st-ranked Arizona women's tennis team competed against No. 4 UCLA on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats lost to the Bruins 7-0 and now own a record of 13-5 overall and 3-4 in the Pac-12.
"I give a lot of credit to UCLA for coming out and playing as well as they did,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “We hung in close with them in doubles, but that gave us no momentum in singles. They played really well down the lineup. We are going to rest for a couple of days and then get focused on our big weekend in the northwest.”
UCLA got off to a good start in doubles play as they clinched the team point after winning the first two matches. Laura Oldham/Devin Chypyha lost to Kristin Wiley and Chanelle Van Nguyen 8-3 and Lauren Marker/Inge Hendrikx lost to top-ranked doubles team Kyle McPhillips and Catherine Harrison 8-3 as well. There was a bright spot in doubles as the duo of Briar Preston/Shayne Austin defeated their third nationally ranked doubles team in four matches after beating No. 23 Jennifer Brady/Robin Anderson 8-5.
The Bruins took care of business in singles play as well. Austin lost her match to 53rd-ranked Harrison in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and No. 80 Marker fell to top-ranked Anderson 6-3, 6-2. UCLA then clinched the victory after Hendrikx fell to Wiley 6-3, 6-2. No. 114 Preston was defeated by No. 46 Jennifer Brady 6-3, 6-2 and Oldham lost to No. 13 Van Nguyen 6-1, 6-1. Chypyha's match against No. 29 McPhillips went down to the wire as it required a third-set tiebreaker, but McPhillips came out on top 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.
Arizona is back in action next week as they travel to the northwest to take on Washington and Oregon.
