05/16/2015 | Men's Golf
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona freshman George Cunningham completed day two of the NCAA Regional, where he currently holds a share of 48th place. Cunningham carded a 74 (+2) on the day to give him a total score of 77-74=151 (+7) going into the third round.
“I honestly couldn't have hit the ball much better today,” reflected Cunningham. “I had 10 birdie opportunities that I could've made and just couldn't get any putts to fall. I was hitting good putts with pretty good reads and kept lipping the ball out. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.”
Cunningham was even through 16 holes until he bogeyed his last two. He is currently tied for first in pars and tied for 10th in par 3 scoring.
“George played really solid all day today," head men's golf coach Jim Anderson noted. "We just couldn't get a putt to fall. He hit the ball very well and his putts were on line but just wouldn't drop. He gave up a shot or two at the finish that will inspire a strong finish tomorrow. He is an outstanding player with a very competitive spirit. Look out for George in the final round.”
