WACO, Texas – The 27th-ranked doubles team of senior Briar Preston and junior Shayne Austin lost to sixth-ranked Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan of Florida in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
“Briar and Shayne had a solid season together,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “They grew as a team and had some really significant wins as they got more comfortable with each other. They had to face a tough Florida team today but they can be proud of what they were able to accomplish together in such a short period of time.”
Preston/Austin finished the year with an overall record of 13-8 this season after going 12-6 (5-4 Pac-12) in dual play, including a stretch where they won 10 matches in 12 opportunities. The duo finished with a record of 3-4 against nationally ranked opponents after being defeated on Thursday. Those three victories were against the second, fifth and 23rd-ranked doubles teams in the country.
This marks the end of the 2015 campaign for all of the Wildcats after No. 55 Lauren Marker dropped her match in yesterday's first round of the NCAA Singles Championships.
