The University of Arizona men's golf team began play at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The Wildcats are currently in 15th place with a score of 606 (+30). Freshman Ari Guiugan and sophomores Jordan Gumberg and Jake Kreuz topped Arizona's scorecard during the first day of play, which spanned 36 holes.

The three are currently tied for 57th with a score of 151 (+7).  Gumberg's score came off of a 77 (+5) in the first and a 74 (+2) in the second. Guiugain, in his debut collegiate appearance, notched a 74 (+2) in the first round and a 77 (+5) in the second. Guiugain score came off four birdies and an eagle. Kreuz scored a 75 (+3) in the first round and a 76 (+4) in the second.

“Our young group really struggled today,” noted coach Jim Anderson. “We didn't play to the correct side of the hole consistently and we didn't show the competitive spirit to push through adversity…Tomorrow, we will start over with clear minds and look to finish on a strong note.”

 Redshirt freshman Andrew Garner carded a 75 (+3) in the first round and a 78 (+6) in the second round to give him a share of 71st place with a score of 153 (+9). Sophomore Max Donohue has a share of 83rd place with a score of 77 (+5) in the first and 79 (+7) in the second to finish the day with a 156 (+12).

The Wildcats took four extra golfers to compete as Individuals in the tournament. Freshmen Tyler Moore noted a 79 (+7) in the first round and a 74 (+2) in the second to finish with a 153 (+9) to tie for 69th. Senior Kolton Lapa carded an 80 (+8) in both rounds to card a 180 (+16) for a share of 94th place. Redshirt freshman noted a 79 (+7) in the first round and an 82 (+10) to place him 97th with a score of 181 (+20). Freshman Martin Lerrea notched an 82 (+10) in the first round and an 80 (+8) in the second round to finish in 98th place with a score of 162 (+18).

The Wildcats will tee off tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. (MST.)
