TUCSON, Ariz. -- Redshirt senior pitcher
Danielle O'Toole and redshirt freshman
Alyssa Palomino are two of 43 players selected to the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp, ASA/USA Softball announced on Monday.
O'Toole and Palomino are just two of 26 current collegiate players to receive invites to the selection camp; Palomino is one of just two freshmen.
The duo will look to continue Arizona's deep history with USA Softball, including six Olympians and a two-time Olympic coach
Mike Candrea.
Palomino has deep roots with USA Softball. A member of the Junior National Team in 2015, Palomino set the Junior World Women's Championship record for home runs and RBI with five and 27, respectively, in the 10-game tournament. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native redshirted 2016 with a torn ACL. Palomino was named the USA Softball Junior Female Athlete of the Year in 2016.
O'Toole led the Pac-12 in victories (26) and finished third in ERA (2.17) and strikeouts (192) in her debut in the league last season. The senior was a first-team all-Pac-12 and all-region performer for Arizona in 2016.
The 43 initial invitees with vie for 17 spots on the 2017 USA Softball Women's National Team roster, which will compete this summer in various international competitions, including the WBSC Women's World Championships, where USA will look to defend its gold medal.
Up Next: The alumni game is the culmination of Arizona's fall schedule. Arizona begins the 2017 season on Feb. 9 when it hosts the Hillenbrand Invitational.
