TUCSON Ariz.- The University of Arizona men's golf team competed in the 2016 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic at the San Diego Country Club On Monday. The Cats are tied for ninth with a score of 608 (+32). The first two rounds were played Monday, with the third and final round set to begin Tuesday at 8 a.m. MST.
Leading the Cats in day one of the competition was sophomore Jordan Gumberg. Gumberg went two over in the first round, and three over in the second to tie him at 26th place with a score of 149 (+5).
"The greens are very fast and our team didn't do a great job keeping the ball on the right side of the hole from start to finish today,” said head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. “The patient team is rewarded and we let a few bad shots rattle our confidence at times. We have a talented group and hopefully we can learn from today to get a better team score from top to bottom tomorrow."
Sophomore George Cunningham ended the first day tied for 39th place with a score of 151 (+7). He had the low round for the Cats in the second round with a 74. Senior Kolton Lapa is tied for 59th place with a score of 154 (+10).
