TUCSON Ariz.- The University of Arizona men's golf team concluded play at the annual Lamkins Grips San Diego Classic, finishing in ninth place with a score of 907 (+43).
Leading the Cats throughout the tournament was sophomore Jordan Gumberg who finished tied for 20th with a score of 222 (+6).
Senior Kolton Lapa had the lowest final round for the Cats notching a 72 (E). Lapa finished the tournament tied for 34th with a score of 226 (+10). Sophomores George Cunningham and Peter Koo shot a 77 (+5) in day two of the competition. Cunningham finished tied for 41st with a score of 228 (+12). Koo ended in a tie for 58th with a score of 232 (+16).
“This week was not our best golf,” commented head men's golf coach Jim Anderson, “but it will help our team as we continue learning from mistakes. Very often, golf is not about the good shots because everyone's good ones are in the right spot. It's important to put the ball in good places even when you are not executing. We will see similar course set ups with fast greens and we will can use this tournament to learn how to manage our games better.”
Redshirt Sophomore Jake Kreuz finished play tied for 78th with a score of 238 (+22). Competing as an individual, Redshirt Freshman Andrew Garner notched a 235 (+19) to tie him for 67th place.
Up next, the Wildcats will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. on March 24th to compete in The Goodwin.
