TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona football players Anu Solomon and Paul Magloire Jr. have been named to watch lists for the 80th annual Maxwell Award and the 22nd annual Chuck Bednarik Award, respectively. The Maxwell Football Club today announced the watch lists this week.

Solomon, a junior quarterback, is among the preseason candidates for The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, which has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. In two seasons, Solomon has thrown for 6,460 yards, which is fourth-most in school history, along with 48 touchdowns, the third-most ever for the program. He has passed for multiple touchdowns 13 times in his 25-game career, with the Wildcats owning a 12-1 record in those contests. Additionally, he owns the school record with 233 consecutive pass attempts without an interception and has thrown an interception only 14 times on 870 total pass attempts. 

Magloire Jr., a senior linebacker/safety, has been tabbed a contender for the The Bednarik Award, named after College Football and NFL Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik, presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. In his first season with the Wildcats last fall, Magloire Jr. ranked second on the team with 72 tackles, leading the squad with 54 solo stops. As a junior, he recorded nine total tackles and two for loss in his first start against Oregon State and capped the season with 13 tackles in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl victory over New Mexico. An eight-game starter, Magloire Jr. played both safety and linebacker, and his versatility figures to again be an asset under a new defensive coaching staff in 2016. 

In 2014, Scooby Wright III became Arizona's first recipient of The Bednarik Award. Wright III was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the seventh round of this April's NFL Draft.
