TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats will kick off their dual match season in Tucson this Saturday, January 28 against two in-state rivals. Arizona will take on Northern Arizona University at 10 a.m. MST, followed by Grand Canyon University at 2 p.m. MST. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.Â
Arizona began their spring schedule two weeks ago at the National Collegiate Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. Saturday represents not only the first home action of the spring, but also the first dual matches of the year. The Cats are led by two ranked seniors in No. 18Â
Lauren Marker and No. 89Â
Samantha Czarniak.
"We are truly looking forward to starting our season," said head coachÂ
Vicky Maes. "The team has worked hard and, while we have a lot of new faces, we feel we can be a strong contender this year. A season is long and a lot can happen but, if we can stay healthy, our line-up is deep and we'll be able to compete with anyone."
NAU (0-1) comes to Tucson after a 4-3 loss to UC Davis last weekend. They were scheduled to face Arizona State, but the match was postponed due to inclement weather.
GCU (1-0) took on UC Irvine last weekend and came away with a 4-3 victory. They were scheduled to face UC Riverside, but also had their match postponed.
Admission to the match is free of charge. LaNelle Robson Tennis Center is located just east of Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium on 2nd street and Campbell Ave.
