One might consider her the backbone of the team.
Julia Patterson, the star sophomore setter from Los Alamitos, California, has been a major presence on the court this year for the Wildcats.
Â
Patterson has started 25 games for the Wildcats this season, the most out of anyone on the team. In the process, she has accumulated 958 assists and 56 kills.
Â
Julia Patterson sat down with ArizonaWildcats.com to reflect on the season as it comes to a close.
Â
As we approach the end of the season, what's the biggest thing you can take away from this year?
Â
I think the biggest thing I will take away from this year is that no matter the outcomes, if a person continues to put in work every day, eventually they will get the outcomes they deserve and reach their full potential.
Â
What is the biggest difference from this year to your freshman season?
Â
I think the biggest difference for me from last year to this year is adjusting to the responsibilities that come with being the starting setter. It's a lot different having to step into a leadership position being a sophomore. It's been a fun challenge for me.Â
Â
What kind of leadership role have you taken being the setter and with the young team that you have?
Â
Being on a young team, while still being young myself, I think I've tried to just take it day by day and reach out more to players to try to understand how they feel or think. I am still trying to figure out the ways I can be the best leader for our team.Â
Â
What's your favorite thing about Coach Rubio?
Â
My favorite thing about Dave is how much patience he has. He truly cares about the developments of every player as a person and as a volleyball player. This season has been rough for everyone, but he constantly tells us to just respect the process and with time we will be rewarded.
Â
What's the best part about playing volleyball at the University of Arizona?
Â
Playing volleyball here is so special. The atmosphere of McKale is awesome because of all our fans. It is truly an awesome experience.
