Women/Men: Texas Invitational
When: Thurs. Nov. 30 to Sat. Dec.2 (9am MST prelims | 5pm MST finals)
Where: Austin, Texas
Participating Schools: ARIZONA, BYU, Harvard, Oklahoma Baptist, Texas, TCU, UNLV, USC, and Wisconsin. ASU and Stanford men will be competing, while NAU, Rutgers, and UCLA women will participate.

Arizona is set to compete in its first Invitational of 2017 as it heads to the highly competitive Texas Invitational this week in Austin, Texas. UA will compete in the annual invitational hosted by the Longhorns at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center from November 29 to December 2. This invitational mimics a championship environment and features top competition.
Season Highlights
Four Wildcats are undefeated in their respective events this season thus far: Sophomore
Hannah Cox, senior
Cameron McHugh, freshman
Brooks Fail, and freshman
Sam Iida.
Cox is undefeated this season in the 500 and 1,000 free in all four dual meets (Washington State, Utah, UCLA, and USC). She also broke the school record in the 1,000 free with 9:32.24 at the USA Swimming College Challenge in October. In addition, the sophomore holds the team's top times in the 200 free (1:47.63 NCAA B cut), 500 free (4:38.64 NCAA B cut), 1,000 free, 200 IM (2:02.61), and 400 IM (4:12.57 NCAA B cut) so far this season.
McHugh is also undefeated in all four meets in the 200 back this season, including earning an NCAA B cut in her fastest try verse Utah with 1:57.53. McHugh placed third in the 200 back in the Texas Invitational last season with 1:53.76, earning an NCAA B cut.
Fail is undefeated in the 500 and 1,000 free for the men in both meets this season (Utah and USC). Fail's fastest attempt in the 500 free came against Utah with 4:27.71 and 1,000 free verse USC with 9:16.42.
Iida is undefeated in the 200 breast in two attempts this season, and won his only attempt in the 200 IM as well. Iida holds the fastest team time in the 100 breast (55.78), 200 breast (2:00.28), and 200 IM (1:50.04) thus far.
Overall, the women are 3-1 and the men are 1-1 on the season. The women dominated Washington State, and both the men and women beat Utah handily.
Eyeing the Competition
The No. 22 Arizona women defeated now No. 25 UCLA earlier this month, 154.5-145.5. Both the men and women lost to T-7 USC in early November, 123-171 and 133-165, respectively.
The rest of the women's competition includes host No. 2 Texas, who is undefeated in five meets this season. No. 19 Wisconsin is 2-2 on the season and Harvard is 2-0. NAU is 3-2, and both TCU and UNLV are 1-1. Rutgers is 5-4, while BYU and Oklahoma Baptist have not competed in a dual meet thus far.
For the men, No. 9 Texas is 1-4 this season. Wisconsin is 2-2 and Harvard is 3-0. TCU is 2-1 and UNLV is 1-1. No. 11 ASU is 2-1 while T-7 Stanford is 1-0. BYU and Oklahoma Baptist have not competed in a dual meet yet this season.
History at the Texas Invitational
Arizona is set to compete in its fourth consecutive Texas Invitational. Last year, the Wildcats totaled 100 NCAA cuts, the men earned 52 and the women attained 48. The women won one relay event and one individual (
Katrina Konopka – 50 free). The men had 36 top-10 finishes, including 13 top-5, while the women had 34 top-10 finishes, and 17 top-5 places.
