TUCSON, Ariz. -- Former Wildcat All-American catcher and 2017 National Pro Fastpitch Gold Glove winner Chelsea Goodacre was honored at the Major League Baseball Gold Glove Award Dinner last Friday night in New York City.
The MLB's Gold Glove winners, which were announced last Tuesday, received their awards at the annual dinner at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Goodacre, who was named the NPF's Gold Glove winner in August, was recognized alongside the likes of Nolan Arenado, Mookie Betts, Evan Longoria, Zack Greinke and other MLB super stars.Â
"I am so incredibly honored to be invited to the Gold Glove Award Dinner," said Goodacre last week. "It's such an honor not only for me but for the sport of softball to be recognized by Major League Baseball and I want to thank the MLB, Rawlings and the NPF for this amazing opportunity. As a huge baseball fan myself, this will be a surreal night for me and my family."
Goodacre did not commit an error in 211 total chances (196 putouts and 16 assists) in 40 games this season while also throwing out 65% of potential base-stealers, the best mark in the league.
"We are so excited for Chelsea Goodacre," said Arizona head coach
Mike Candrea. "What a tremendous honor for her and her family to be honored with the best of the best in the MLB. I know how passionate Chelsea is for the game and it is always great to see the hard work and passion pay off. This is an award that she will enjoy and talk about for the rest of her life. Congratulations to Chelsea and the Goodacre Family."
Goodacre, a 2015 second-team NFCA All-American and three-time first-team all-Pac-12 performer, had a .990 fielding percentage at Arizona. The backstop hit 71 career home runs, sixth most in Arizona history while driving in 240, including an NCAA-most 86 RBI as a senior in 2015. Goodacre remains on staff with the Wildcats during the NPF offseason; she is entering her third year as Arizona graduate manager.
