02/12/2017 | Women's Golf
The University of Arizona women's golf team completed the first round of play on Sunday at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Wildcats are tied for sixth place after shooting nine-over par on the day for a score of 293. UCLA leads the team competition with a score of 280 (-4.) Leona Maguire of Duke and Robynn Ree of USC sit at the top of the individual leaderboard with four-under-par rounds of 67.
"The ladies fought back hard today after a bad start," said coach Laura Ianello. "Danielle Lee was the player of the day, with an amazing eagle on the 16th hole. Haley and Krystal struggled a little but will come back with a positive mindset tomorrow. We had a slow start with a lot of three putt bogeys. The ladies settled down and were able to make up a lot of strokes on the back nine."
Sophomore Danielle Lee led the way, shooting a one-under-par round of 70. She is currently tied for seventh place. Sophomore Haley Moore is tied for 15th after shooting one-over in her first round. Junior Krystal Quihuis is tied for 34th after carding a round of 74. Senior Wanasa Zhou posted a score of 77. Sophomore Gigi Stoll shot an 83.
The Wildcats will tee off second round play tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m. MST. The tournament leaderboard can be found here: http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=11494.
