FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Women's swimming and diving moved up to third place on day 2 of the Pac-12 Championships with a total score of 376. Stanford leads with 546 followed by California with 490.
The Cats totaled 12 NCAA 'B' cuts on the day as each swimmer in the finals notched a cut. Sophomore
Katrina Konopka added the only individual 'A' cut, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships in her event. Junior
Cameron McHugh earned her second career NCAA cut, the first coming at the Texas Invitational this season in the 200 back.
Arizona closed out the day with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay, its best finish of the day. The team of Konopka,
Annie Ochitwa,
Paige Kremer and
Laura Kurki touched with a time of 1:27.95 to land on the podium and earn an 'A' cut in the event for the second time this season.
Women's diving had a successful day with three divers in the final of the 1-meter, the most of any school. Senior
Sally Hackett finished fourth with 268.90. Junior
Kaitlin Costello took sixth (266.75) followed by senior
Karolyn Loftus (264.80).
Freshman
Hannah Cox had a strong performance in the 500 free, placing fifth in the final with a time of 4:39.66. Junior
Tjasa Oder finished sixth in the B final (4:43.30) while junior
Jenna Bauer took third in the C final (4:45.32). All three contributed points to Arizona's total.
The Cats had seven swimmers qualify for the final of the 50 free, second to only California who had eight. Konopka finished sixth in her best event with a personal-best time (21.71), moving her to third on Arizona's top-ten all-time list.
Sophomore
Annie Ochitwa took third in the B final of the 50 free with 22.23 while junior
Morgan Ginnis placed eighth with 2.85. In the C final,
Laura Kurki was runner-up (22.61) followed by
Paige Kremer (22.65),
Taylor Nations (22.77) and
Ashley Sutherland (22.80), all within two-tenths of a second from each other.
In the 200 IM, sophomore
Mackenzie Rumrill placed sixth in the B final with 1:59.39. In the C final of the event, junior
Alexandra Martelle took second (2:00.14) followed by McHugh (2:00.83). All three notched new season-best times.
