INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Women's swimming and diving concluded the 2017 NCAA Championships in 16th with a score of 89.5. Stanford claimed its ninth NCAA Championship (526.5) while California finished second (366) followed by Texas A&M (292.5).
Junior
Tjasa Oder posted the best finish on the final day, taking 11th in the 1,650 free with a season-best (15:59.23). The finish earned her an All-American Honorable Mention. Freshman
Hannah Cox finished 28th with a personal-best time of 16:13.62. Meanwhile, freshman
Kirsten Jacobsen placed 33rd with 16:15.61.
The team of
Katrina Konopka,
Annie Ochitwa,
Taylor Garcia and
Cameron McHugh earned the other All-America Honorable Mentions honors for the Cats, tying for 14th in the 400 free relay with Auburn (3:15.02).
At the Championships, sophomore Konopka earned All-American status in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay in addition to tallying three All-America Honorable Mention honors (50 free, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay). Sophomores Ochitwa and Garcia were also members of the same relays.
Junior McHugh finished 22nd in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.22 after qualifying for her first NCAA Championships as an individual.
In the prelims of the platform, senior
Karolyn Loftus took 22nd (237.10) for her career-best finish at the NCAA Championships. Senior
Sally Hackett placed 35th in the event with 215.60.
Ochitwa also competed in the 100 free on the final day, taking 31st in the prelims with a time of 48.63. Freshman
Kennedy Lohman finished 45th in the prelims of the 200 breast with a personal-best 2:12.29.
Up Next: Men's swimming and diving travels to Indianapolis for the 2017 NCAA Championships starting on Wednesday, Mar. 22 and continuing through Saturday, Mar. 25. Arizona has five swimmers that qualified for individual events.
