TUCSON, ARIZ. – The University of Arizona men's golf team, coming off their second place finish at the Duck Invitational, will close out the regular season at the 71st Western Intercollegiate on April 8th. The two day competition will be held at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. with 36 holes played on Saturday.
The Western Intercollegiate will feature a 15 team field with live scoring tracked by golfstat.com. Seven teams from the Pac-12 conference will join the Cats in Santa Cruz, including the reining national champion Oregon Ducks.
The 71st edition of The Western Intercollegiate will play differently than the average golf tournament; with teams playing six contestants and counting the lowest five scores towards the team score.
"The Western Intercollegiate is among the oldest collegiate events in the country," commented head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. "We are honored to compete in this tournament at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Club. The format sets up well, as we believe we have great depth and this group is coming off our most consistent and complete performance to date. We have told our team what to expect and now we need them to be ready for a fun challenge. Patience will be tested and the golf course set up requires discipline and composure. Our goal is to have six guys who can and will to do just that. This tournament is also unique because we get to pair players from our team with another teammates. This in itself should be a great reminder to give your best and it promotes a great 'team' feel. Also, I think our guys are really excited to return to a place most of our guys have seen."
Making the trip to Santa Cruz for the will be juniors George Cunningham, Jordan Gumberg and Ethan Marcus, sophomore Dylan Stein, and freshmen David Laskin and Brad Reeves.
