TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pac-12 Conference announced the league's All-Academic teams Tuesday, and the Arizona Wildcats placed two on the first-team.
Senior infielders Louis Boyd and Kyle Lewis were each selected to the 10-man All-Academic first-team, marking the first time since 2005 Arizona has placed a player on the first-team.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Flynn was selected as an honorable mention pick this year, joining Boyd and Lewis in receiving postseason academic honors from the conference.
Lewis, from Kings Beach, California, graduated earlier this month with a degree in general studies with an emphasis in sports and society. He has an overall grade point average of 3.88 and has been on the Dean's List in each of his four semesters at Arizona. He also made the Presidents List twice, for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Lewis also won the Unsung Hero Award at last month's CATSYS Awards on campus for his work in the classroom.
Boyd, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, is scheduled to graduate in the fall with a degree in general studies with an emphasis in economy and industry. Boyd has maintained a career grade point average of 3.79. This summer, Boyd has been accepted into the prestigious Nike Internship Program in Oregon and will serve as a sales analyst intern once the baseball season is complete.
Flynn, a sophomore from Los Alamitos, California, was an honorable mention pick with his 3.33 grade point average. He's majoring in general studies with an emphasis in sports and society.
On the field, all three student-athletes have been meaningful contributors for the Wildcats this season. Lewis has played in 53 of the team's 56 regular season games, with 41 starting assignments. He batted .270 in the regular season with four doubles, 25 RBI, seven stolen bases and 20 runs scored.
Boyd missed 15 games earlier this season with an arm injury, but has played in all 41 games he's been available for. He batted .246 in the regular season with 30 runs scored, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. Flynn pitched in 20 games for the Wildcats in the regular season with four starts. He posted a 3.12 ERA in 49 innings, striking out 45 and allowing opposing batters to hit just .217.
The last Arizona player to make first-team All-Academic was John Meloan in 2005.
