Five Sets With Tyler Spriggs

Tyler Spriggs, from Los Angeles, Calif., is back in the Wildcat uniform for her junior year. Spriggs has proven to be a strong offensive player in her two years with Arizona putting up more than 500 points and over 450 kills.

Spriggs has started off the 2017 season strong. Averaging 2.75 kills per set, she is the leading scorer on this season's team.

ArizonaWildcats.com sat down with Spriggs to talk about life growing up and her volleyball experience with the Wildcats.

Last week, you had two matches in Florida canceled due to Hurricane Irma. What was it like flying out there only to have the governor of Florida cancel all competitions when you arrived?
"It was definitely an eventful morning and leading up to it we all didn't know what to expect. But I mean, we never want to give up an opportunity to compete. It was definitely nerve-wracking but we all believe that whatever happens is going to happen."

What was it like growing up as the daughter of an NBA champion?
"I mean it was fun. You get the perks of going to Lakers games and stuff like that. It definitely instilled a championship mentality from a young age just knowing that nothing is giving and you have to work to get where you want to be and that's the highest level."

What is the most important skill Coach Rubio has taught you over the past two years?
"I think the most important thing that he's taught me is that you have to have a short memory and a huge ego. That's very important playing in a conference like this, you know everything's not always going to go your way. It is key to compete day in and day out and let the past go."

Since you want to pursue a career in sports, do you want to work with volleyball or do you want to work with a different sport?
"I would be down for anything. It's kind of hard to work with volleyball in the things that I want to do, I definitely wouldn't mind it but I'm open to whatever job presents itself."

What is your favorite thing to do off the court?
"I'm a huge eater and sleeper. When I have free time I'm just trying to relax because this season is definitely a grind."
