Arizona men's and women's swimming and diving heads to Northern California to swim against Stanford and California on Fri Jan 19 and Sat Jan 20, respectively. On the men's side, California is the top-ranked team in the country, while Stanford is fifth. For the women, Stanford and California are two and three, respectively. Arizona men are ranked sixteenth, and the women are ranked seventeenth.
Quad Meet Recap
Arizona women swept Rice, NAU, and NMSU earlier this month. The Wildcats won twelve events, with three women winning two races each. The women improve to 4-1 on the season.
Eyeing the Competition
Stanford men are 2-0 this season, crushing University of the Pacific 217.5-44.5 earlier this week. Number-two Stanford women are undefeated at 3-0. In early November, the Cardinal beat #13 North Carolina State 189-104.
The California men are 2-0 so far this season, ranking number one in the nation. The last dual-meet Cal competed in was in mid-October, where the Bears beat Utah 188.5-111.5. The third-ranked women are 5-0 thus far. Most recently, the Bears defeated San Jose State 132-78.
History verse Stanford
The Wildcat men have not beaten the Cardinal since 2012, going 8-0 that season and narrowly defeating Stanford 153-145.
The Arizona women have lost the last five dual meets against Stanford. The Wildcats lost last season to top-ranked Cardinal 104-190.
History verse California
The men have dropped the last five meets against California. Last season, the #1 Bears beat the Wildcats 113-161.
Wildcat women last beat the Bears during the 2012-13 season 168.5-112.5, finishing the season 11-4.
