Arizona Sweeps Saturday with Two More Mercy Wins

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona softball improved to 4-0 at the Arizona Fall Invitational with two more mercy-shortened shutouts of the weekend. UA defeated Phoenix College 10-0 (5 inn.) and Mt. SAC 14-0 (5 inn.) on Saturday at Lincoln Park.
The Wildcats will close out the Invitational on Sunday vs. Eastern Arizona and Pima College at 2 and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
Game 1: Arizona 10, Phoenix College 0 (5 inn.)
Marissa Schuld threw a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts while her offense plated 10 runs on nine hits to mercy the Bears, 10-0, in five innings.
For the second straight game, UA hit three home runs; Ivy Davis and Jessie Harper each hit three-run homers and Dejah Mulipola hit a solo blast. Davis' home run was her second of the fall season.
Harper went 3-for-3 with her three RBI, her second three-hit game in UA's three games this fall. Izzy Pacho also had a multi-hit game; she went 2-for-3.
Ivy Davis opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, her second homer in as many games. Jenna Kean later recorded an RBI in the frame to give UA a 4-0 lead after two.
In the third, Dejah Mulipola tucked a solo homer inside the left field foul pole to give Arizona a 5-0 lead. Tamara Statman then brought home a run with a sacrifice fly to put the Cats on top 6-0 after three innings.
After UA added one in the fourth on a wild pitch, Jessie Harper hit a walkoff three-run homer in the fifth to end the game via the mercy rule, 10-0 after five.
Game 2: Arizona 14, Mt. SAC 0 (5 inn.)
Arizona had its best offensive game of the fall, scoring 14 runs on 15 hits over four offensive innings in a 15-0 victory over Mt. SAC in Saturday's nightcap.
Hanah Bowen (3.0 IP, 6 K) and Gina Snyder (2.0 IP 4 K) combined to throw the two-hit shutout, the fourth shutout in as many tries this fall for the Wildcats.
Jessie Harper had another big outing for the Cats; the junior posted her third three-hit game in four fall games. She went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI in the game to lead UA's offense.
Eight different Wildcats drove in runs in the contest; Harper led the way with five while Rylee Pierce brought home three. Jenna Kean, Reyna Carranco, Tamara Statman, Izzy Pacho, Hillary Edior and Marissa Schuld had one apiece.
The scoring in the second game got started just as it ended in the first game, with a Jessie Harper three-run homer. Her second homer in as many at-bats gave the Cats a 3-0 lead after one inning.
UA added four more in the second inning on RBI singles from Jenna Kean, Harper, Rylee Pierce and Marissa Schuld to take a 7-0 lead.
Arizona would add seven runs over the next two innings to mercy the Mounties, 14-0 in five innings.
