Devyn Cross Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona volleyball junior middle blocker Devyn Cross has been named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for her stellar effort at the net in Arizona's 2-0 weekend vs. Colorado and Utah at McKale Center.

Cross, who leads the team and is eighth in the Pac-12 in blocks, was a large reason Arizona outblocked its opponents by a cumulative 22-14 total on the weekend, helping the Cats sweep the weekend and close out the first half of Pac-12 play at .500 in league play, tied for sixth in the conference.

The junior was in on 13 of UA's 22 blocks on the weekend, averaging an excellent 1.86 blocks per set in the two matches. She added 1.86 kills and totaled 20.5 points for the Cats on the weekend.

On Sunday vs. Utah, Cross tied a career high with nine blocks in just four sets. It marked her team-best seventh match this season with five-or-more blocks. Cross tied her career highs in total blocks (9) and block assists (8), which both came last season against the Utes (11/18/17).

On the season, Cross leads the team with 1.16 blocks per set and is third on the team with 2.19 kills/set. Both would be career bests by a wide margin for the Edwards Air Force Base, California native. Cross ranks eighth in the Pac-12 in blocks/set (1.16) and seventh in hitting percentage (.356).

This is the first career weekly conference award for Cross and the second this season for the Wildcats (Kendra Dahlke; Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week - week 6). Cross becomes the first Wildcat to win Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week since Penina Snuka on Nov. 7, 2016.

Cross and the Wildcats are back in action this weekend at home when they welcome Oregon State (Friday) and Oregon (Sunday) to kick off the second half of Pac-12 play.
