Arizona Rolls by Incarnate Word 84-42

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats (5-1) came out strong against the Incarnate Word Cardinals (0-7) leading 43-23 at the end of the first half and continued their stride Tuesday night, coming out on top 84-42. Lucia Alonso's powerful three point shot seemed unstoppable, hitting four throughout the game for 14 points.
 
Cate Reese worked around Incarnate Word's defense looking for the perfect opportunity to shoot, earning her a total of 19 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Aari McDonald stayed true to her free throw shot, hitting a perfect 9-9 and scored a game-high 24 points.
 
Arizona's defense was once again stout, forcing the Cardinals to shoot 32.7% from the field while forcing a season-high 25 turnovers. Sam Thomas led the way with another four steals while Tee Tee Starks and McDonald each chipped in three apiece. Semaj Smith was also a force down in the paint, blocking a career-high five shots.
 
Arizona took to the court with a forceful energy in the first quarter as Alonso made all four of her three-point attempts, giving the Wildcats a 31-16 lead at the end of the first period. The Cardinals looked to catch up, but struggled against Arizona's defense only scoring seven points in the second quarter. Arizona rolled into half time with a 20-point lead over Incarnate Word ending at 43-23.
  
The Cardinals once again had a tough time scoring in the third quarter, putting just eight points on the board while Arizona shot 54% in the third to go up 61-31.
 
Pushing through the last period, the Wildcat defense worked to shut down Incarnate Word in the fourth quarter, allowing 11 points leaving the Cardinals down 42 points at the sound of the final buzzer. Throughout the fourth, the Arizona offense busted out 23 points, earning them their fifth win of the season as well as their fourth-straight.

The Wildcats hit the road this weekend to face San Diego State on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. MST.
