TUCSON, Ariz. – Two Wildcats, junior middle blocker
Devyn Cross and senior outside hitter have been selected to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, the AVCA announced on Wednesday.
This marks the first career All-America recognition for both Cross and Dahlke; they are UA's first All-American performers since Kalei Mau and Penina Snuka were named to the third team 2016.
Devyn Cross • Junior • Middle Blocker • Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. (Desert H.S.)
Cross, who was also named to the all-conference and all-region honorable mention, had a breakout year in 2018, finishing fourth in the Pac-12 in hitting percentage (.361), seventh highest in UA history, and setting career highs in every major statistical category, including kills (2.06/set), hitting percentage (.361), digs (0.54/set), blocks (1.03/set), points (286.5) and assists (0.11/set). The junior posted just the fifth season in Arizona history with more than 2.00 kills/set (2.06), 1.00 block/set (1.03) while hitting better than .350 (.361) and first since Jolene Killough in 2004. She was one of two players in the conference to post two kills, one block and a .350 hitting percentage. Cross hit .389 in Pac-12 matches, the second highest hitting percentage in league matches in the conference.
Kendra Dahlke • Senior • Outside Hitter • Bonsall, Calif. (Fallbrook H.S.)
Dahlke, who was also named all-Pac-12 and all-Pacific South Region, posted one of the best seasons by an outside hitter in UA history in 2018. The senior averaged 4.77 kills per set, seventh most in a season in Arizona history, which currently leads the Pac-12. Dahlke is trying to become the first Wildcat since Kim Glass in 2005 to lead the Pac-12 in kills per set since Kim Glass in 2005 (Stanford's Kathryn Plummer is second with 4.76 kills/set; the Cardinal is still playing in the NCAA Tournament). Dahlke finished her Wildcat career with 1,408 career kills (7th in Arizona history), 3.55 kills/set (7th in Arizona history), 3,958 total attacks (6th in Arizona history), 74 career 10-plus kill matches (5th in Arizona history) and 17 career 20-plus kill matches (5th in Arizona history). In addition to her 4.77 kills, Dahlke averaged 2.82 digs, 0.29 blocks and 0.17 aces per set.
