
Cats to Begin Spring Season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

The Arizona women's golf team will begin the 2018 spring season with the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club on Sunday.
Competing for the Cats will be juniors Haley Moore, Bianca Pagdanganan and Gigi Stoll, while freshman Yu-Sang Hou will be making her Wildcat debut. Hou joined the team at mid-season and enters the spring as the 65th ranked amateur golfer in the world. Also playing for Arizona is sophomore Sandra Nordaas who will be competing in her second event of the 2017-18 campaign.
The tournament boasts a strong field with 12 teams earning Golfstat rankings inside of the Top-25. Last season USC took home the team title finishing the tournament at 4-over par. Leona Maguire (Duke), Mackenzie Raim (UNLV), and Taylor Tomlinson (Florida) were the individual medalists shooting 209 (-4).
The Cats are coming off of a fall season which had two individual winners in Pagdanganan and Moore. Pagdanganan won the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. where she shot 208 (-8) in her first event as a Wildcat. Moore followed up with a victory at the Golfweek Conference in Vail, Co. where she shot 209 (-7) to secure her second career UA victory.
Last season the Cats finished in a tie for eighth place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge while Haley Moore shot 1-under par for the tournament finishing fifth. Arizona has competed in the prestigious event the 17 times dating back to 1996-97 and in each of the past five seasons. UA has won the tournament twice in 2000 and 2001 with a pair of individual winners in Natalie Gulbis (2001) and Lorena Ochoa (2002).
