SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Arizona women's tennis team (8-7) lost to Utah (8-5) with a final score of 5-2 on Sunday.

In doubles play, Mary Lewis/Marie Van Aelst fell to Alexia Petrovic/Jena Cheng 6-4 on court one. Brianna Chisholm/Victoria Robertson secured the doubles point for Utah when they beat Gitte Heynemans/Sophia Thomas 7-5 on court three, leaving the third match unfinished.
 
Marie Van Aelst won the first point for Arizona when she defeated Jena Cheng 6-1, 6-0 on court three. Sophia Thomas fell to Victoria Robertson 6-1, 6-2 on court six, and Taylor Calton defeated Gitte Heynemans  on court four 6-2, 6-0. Whitney Turley clinched the match for Utah when she won over Talya Zandberg 6-4, 6-2 on court five. Alexia Petrovic beat Mary Lewis 7-5, 6-4 on court one. Camila Wesbrooks scored the second point for the Wildcats when she defeated Brianna Chisholm 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 on court two.
 
"We had some really great individual performances today, but not enough from everyone to get the win," said head coach Vicky Maes. "The trouble started in the doubles, where we played Utah very close but didn't convert our opportunities. Our inexperience keeps showing, and that's not acceptable at this stage in a season. We need to be tougher. Kudos to Paris, Camila, and especially Marie for their consistency this weekend. Mary, too, is hanging in there at number one, which is not an easy task for a freshman. We have a little break here coming up, and it will give us a chance to regroup and get back on track."

The Cats will travel to Oregon to compete against Portland on Thursday, March 22 at 10 a.m. MST and Oregon on Friday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. MST.
