Arizona Finished 3rd at Lamkin Grips Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The Arizona men's golf team finished in 3rd place, scoring 860 (-4), for their fourth consecutive top five finish of the season, the most since 2013-2014. The Cats had three golfer finish within the top 20, in senior George Cunningham, sophomore David Laskin and freshman Trevor Werbylo.
"We had another solid performance from our team this week," commented head coach Jim Anderson. "These kind of tournaments continue fueling this young team's confidence and we believe more great weeks are ahead. We certainly have to to improve, but like anything, we choose to take many positives from beating some quality opponents on a course set up for a challenge."
Oklahoma State (#1 Golfweek) took first after a dominant performance, going 44 under in the tournament. Texas Tech (#9), North Carolina and Ole Miss round out the top five. Fredrik Nilehn, of Texas Tech, took first place in the individual competition, scoring 201 (-15).
Cunningham and Laskin both finished tied in 14th place, with a final score of 214 (-2). Cunningham rose from 26th to 14th, with a strong final round, scoring 69, with a pair of birdies and an eagle to put him at three under. The senior ranked in the top five in the par 5 scoring category, averaging 4.58 per hole. Laskin remained in the top 15 throughout the whole tournament, and making even par for the third round. The Northern California native finished ranked third in par 3 scoring, as well as second in pars scored in a field of 75 individuals.
Werbylo placed tied for 16th, with a score of 215 (-1) for his second career top 20 finish. The Tucson native had four birdies in his final round, and 12 overall. Werbylo ranked third in par 5 scoring among individuals, averaging 4.43.
Sophomore Brad Reeves wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 22nd place, scoring 217 and one over par. Reeves' final round of 71 had five birdies, with 11 overall in the tournament. Freshman Tianlang Guan finished play in a tie for 69th, with a score of 226 (+10).
Individual, junior Dylan Stein concluded the tournament tied in 66th, scoring 225 (+9).
Next up for the Cats is the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. on March 26-27.
