TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona sophomore shortstop
Jessie Harper has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, collecting her sixth weekly conference award of her career. She was named Pac-12 Player of the Week twice and Pac-12 Freshman of the Week three times in 2017.
Harper hit .500 in 10 at-bats with a double and two home runs, leading Arizona to a sweep of Utah in the Pac-12-opening weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium. The sophomore slugged 1.200 and got on base at a .545 clip on the weekend.Â
The Stevenson Ranch, California native had the biggest hit of the weekend in game 1. Locked in 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, with two on and two out, Harper hit a three-run homer to left to propel the Cats to victory in the opener and open the floodgates for the rest of the weekend. After that home run, Arizona would go on to score nine runs on Saturday and 10 runs on Sunday in the sweep. Harper would homer again on Sunday, a three-run bomb, her team-high 10th of the season, putting her one off the Pac-12 lead in home runs.
On the season, Harper is batting .382 with 17 extra base hits (5 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR) and a team-most 31 RBI. She's slugging .820 on the year.
Harper becomes the second Wildcat this year to win a weekly conference award.
Taylor McQuillin was the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in week 3.
Up next:Â Harper and the Wildcats will hit the road for the first time this conference season this weekend. The Cats travel to Seattle for a three-game series with No. 1 Washington this Friday-Sunday on the Pac-12 Networks.
