No. 11 Arizona went 2-0 at the Monterey Invitational improving their record on the season to 9-3.
The Wildcats began their day with a 4-1 victory over the San Jose State Spartans. The No. 1 pair Natalie Anselmo and Olivia Macdonald defeated Nandyala Gama and Lyndi Scholl, 21-9, 21-15. Kacey Nady and Olivia Hallaran fought a tough battle against the Spartans No. 2 pair Ciara Reistad and Julia Golbeck, but fell with a final score of 21-15, 8-21, 19-17.
Arizona's No. 3 pair of Makenna Martin and Mia Mason claimed victory over Luiza Andrade and Breann Robinson after taking the match in three sets, 21-19, 26-28, 15-10. To continue that momentum, Hailey Devlin and Stephany Purdue picked up a win against the Spartans No. 4 tandem of Kaitlynn Zdroik and Laura Parts, 21-18, 21-13. Arizona's Jonny Baham and Brooke Burling, competing as the No. 5 pair, defeated Jamie Hirai and Thaliana Grajeda, 21-18, 21-9.
Later that day, Arizona held onto that energy and claimed their second win of the tournament. The Cats defeated the Santa Clara Broncos (5-0) in the Monterey College Invitational.
At the No. 1 position, Anselmo and Macdonald took down the Broncos Kirsten Mead and Hailey Lindberg, 21-14, 21-12. Nady and Hallaran earned a victory on court two over Ngozi Nwabuzoh and Gretchen Reinert, 21-16, 21-16. This brings the pair to a (9-3) record thus far.
At No. 3, Martin and Mason took down Taylor Odom and Tessie Powers in three sets, 17-21, 21-17, 15-9. Devlin and Purdue also played to three sets ending their battle against the Broncos' No. 4 pair of Erin Reineking and Michelle Gajdka, 13-21, 21-16, 15-6.
To complete the sweep, Arizona's No. 5 pair of Baham and Burling defeated Santa Clara's Brittany Gillingham and Tatiana San Juan, 21-13, 21-9.
No. 11 Arizona heads back on the road to compete in the Pac-12 Southern Invitational in Santa Monica, Calif. March 24-25. The Cats will take on No. 2 UCLA and No. 14 Stanford on Saturday followed by host No.4 USC and No. 16 California on Sunday.
