Tucson, Ariz. – Freshman Jordan Geist was named the USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year on Monday, March 5th.
 
"This award is a testament to the hard work Jordan (Geist) has put in over the past few months, and it shows what he can do in his career," said throws coach T.J. Crater. "This is great news for our program. As we continue to build our group, we hope to see more success come from hard work. Moving on to The NCAA Championships, Jordan is focusing on carrying this momentum into the circle in Texas. He is going to go and execute his throws to the best of his ability, and enjoy every second."
 
Geist's freshman campaign is highlighted by a record setting performance at the UW Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 27th. The freshman had a toss of 21.45m to set the No. 1 NCAA mark, NCAA freshman record, UW Invitational meet record, and Arizona Indoor record, and sits in the No. 4 spot on the world list.
 
The freshman came to Arizona as the 2017 Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year. Geist took first at the 2017 Pan-Am Junior Championships in the shot put with a mark of 22.02m to set the Pan American junior Games Record and won a national title at the New Balance Outdoor Championships in the hammer toss with a mark of 72.54m.
 
Geist is set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 9th in College Station, TX.
