Cats Close Out Regular Season With Win

EUGENE, Ore. – The Arizona Wildcats closed out their regular season Saturday with an 11-4 win over Oregon at PK Park.

The Cats finished the regular season with a 34-22 record and 14-16 mark in the Pac-12. The Cats will now wait to see if they've been selected to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is set for 9 a.m., Monday, and will be televised by ESPN.

Arizona's RPI, still not finalized, will finish inside the top 50. The Cats' nonconference RPI sits at No. 11, and coach Jay Johnson's team won 11 of their final 16 games in the regular season. Arizona also went 10-1 in midweek contests and won their final 15 nonconference games this season.

On Saturday, the Wildcats finished their regular season in style, closing out the Ducks and winning the road series. Randy Labaut, who suffered a leg injury on March 17 versus Washington and hadn't pitched since, returned in relief. He pitched two hitless innings, striking out a pair and earning the win in his return.

The Cats gave Labaut and the pitching staff plenty to work with on the day. Arizona got on the board in the first inning when Cameron Cannon doubled with one out to put a man into scoring position right away. After a walk and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Nick Quintana delivered an RBI single to score Cannon and get the Cats on the board.

Oregon plated one run in the second and another in the third off starter Avery Weems to grab an early 2-1 lead through three innings.

But in the fifth, Arizona's offense came alive for good. Cal Stevenson singled with one out and moved up a base when Cannon walked. Alfonso Rivas then walked to load the bases for Cesar Salazar. Salazar singled to right to score Stevenson and Quintana followed with a two-run double to give Arizona a 4-2 lead.

The Ducks responded with a run in the bottom half of the fifth to close it to 4-3. But Arizona again put up a crooked number in the sixth, scoring a pair of runs. Ryan Haug started the inning with a walk and moved up a base when Matt Fraizer walked. Stevenson moved both runners up with a deep fly ball. Cannon followed with his second double of the game and 21st of the season to drive in a pair and make it 6-3.

In the seventh, Haug made it 7-3 on a squeeze bunt to score Quintana. The Cats then added four insurance runs in the eighth. Rivas, Haug, Jacob Blas and Donta Williams all had RBIs in the inning to make it 11-3. The Ducks got one back in the ninth, but Zach Stone got the final out to lock down the win for the Wildcats.

Cannon paced the Cats, going 3 for 3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Quintana finished 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Blas also had a multi-hit game, going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Salazar was 1 for 2 with an RBI and finished the series with 8 RBI in three games.
