Eldridge Lands on Rimington Trophy Watch List

Junior Nathan Eldridge, an honorable mention all-conference selection a year, is a preseason candidate for the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation’s most outstanding center.

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona center Nathan Eldridge has been named to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to the most outstanding center in college football.

A native of Anthem, Ariz., Eldridge enters his junior season on the preseason watch list for the second consecutive season. The 6-foot-3, 297-pounder has started at center for all 25 of the Wildcats' games the last two season. He was voted an honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection a season ago, while the Associated Press tabbed him a second-team All-Pac-12 peformer.

Eldridge was a key cog in a veteran offensive line that helped pave the way for the nation's third-ranked rushing offense at 309.3 yards per game. During the regular season, the Wildcats rushed for at least 152 yards in all 12 games, including 10 performances with 200-plus yards, seven over 300 yards, four over 400 yards and a school-record 534 yards against Oregon State. Furthermore, Arizona allowed the fewest sacks of any Pac-12 team.

The Rimington Trophy has been awarded to the most outstanding center in FBS since 2000 and is named after Dave Rimington, a two-time winner of the Outland Trophy and 1997 College Football Hall of Fame inductee. The winner is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from the All-America teams of the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers of America.

Arizona begins the Kevin Sumlin coaching era at home on Sept. 1 against Brigham Young University. Start time and television information for early season and non-Saturday games are expected to be announced by the Pac-12 Conference and the television partners on May 31.
