April Student-Athletes of the Month Announced

TUCSON, Ariz.- Men's Tennis' Jonas Maier, Women's Golf's Natalia Forero, Track and Field's David Eggbo, and Softball's Robyn Porter are being recognized for their academic achievement in the month of April. These students have been honored for their commitment to earning their undergraduate degree, the ability to maximize their academic potential, and their dedication to academic improvement and growth.
 
These students have been chosen by the C.A.T.S Academic staff.
 
Maier, a junior, is originally from Hamburg, Germany. He spent his first two years playing tennis at Utah State, where he had a31-17 singles record and a 32-19 doubles record. Maier went 5-0 during the Mountain West Tournament Championship which includes a match clinching point over UNLV in the championship game.
 
"Jonas Maier has excelled in the classroom this past year," commented academic counselor Andy Salgado. "His hard work helped gain him admittance to the Business Management program in the Eller College of Management this spring semester."
 
Forero, a senior from Cali, Colombia, has competed in 11 tournaments throughout her career. Last season, Forero shot a low round of 68 at the Dick McGuire Invitational where she had her career low tournament score of 218 (+2), with a season high finish in a tie for 30th.
 
"Natalia is a graduating senior from Columbia majoring in Finance and excels in academics while balancing a busy golf schedule," said Jennifer Mewes, Forero's Academic Counselor.
 
Egbo is a junior sprinter from Gilbert, Ariz. Egbo had three top ten finishes this season, as well as set personal records in both the 100 M (10.75) and the 200 M (21.47) in outdoor meets. He made his indoor season debut last year, where he posted a career mark of 21.15 at the Don Kirby Invite.
 
"David Egbo is a leader on and off of the track," said LeAnne Shoemaker, Egbo's academic counselor. "Currently majoring in Physiology, David works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the track. He is always a friendly face and is kind to everyone he talks to."
 
Porter is a Tucson native and a catcher for the Wildcats. Throughout her career, Porter has started in seven games and has played in 25, where she has 5 hits, 5 RBI, and one home run. Aside from her performance on the diamond, Porter was awarded the Unsung Hero Award at the CATSY's for the leadership she brings to the softball team.
 
"Robyn has always been a stellar student-athlete since her freshman year," commented Sarah Howard, Porter's academic counselor. "She was someone who had planned out her whole course schedule to graduate by the start of her junior year and stuck to the plan. There is no doubt that Robyn is going to be doing big things after graduation!"
