TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona sophomore running back
J.J. Taylor was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Taylor's career-best performance last Saturday propelled the Wildcats to a 35-14 road win at Oregon State.
A native of Corona, Calif., Taylor carried the ball 27 times for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He also had one kickoff return for 21 returns, giving him 305 all-purpose yards for the game. Each total was a new career high.
The 284 rushing yards rank fourth-best in program history and are the most for any UA running back in a road game. The total is also the most in a single contest by any FBS player this season. Taylor now leads the Pac-12 in rushing with 477 yards on the season (119.2 per game) along with four total touchdowns (one kickoff return score).
As a team, Arizona topped 400 rushing yards for the sixth time in the last 18 contests. The tally of 442 rushing yards was a season-high and marked the most yards since the Wildcats ran for a school-record 534 yards against Beavers last November 11 in Tucson.
Taylor, who was named the Pac-12 co-Freshman of the Year last season, earns his first career player of the week award. He is the first Wildcat offensive player to be honored since
Khalil Tate won the honor four straight weeks last October.
Arizona is back at home this week to host USC on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with a live television broadcast on ESPN2. Ticket prices start at $15 for adults and $7 for kids (ages 3-12). Tickets can be purchased at the McKale Ticket Office, by calling 520-621-CATS, or online at ArizonaWildcats.com/FB.Â
