Wildcats in Fifth After Day One of Stanford Intercollegiate

STANFORD, Calif. -- The Arizona women's golf team kicked off the Stanford Intercollegiate with a team score of 1-over on Friday. The Cats ended the day in fifth, seven shots back of Arizona State.
Freshman Vivian Hou, fresh off winning Pac-12 Player of the Month, led the Cats with a 3-under 69. Her round consisted of five birdies and was good enough to get he into a tie for second. Fellow freshman Gile Bite Starkute jumped out to an early lead with four birdies on the front nine, but faded back to finish the day at 1-over.
Sophomore Ya Chun Chang continued her consistency, pouring in four birdies on her way to a first-round 73. Junior Hollie Muse shot 1-under on the front nine and finished the day at 2-over and in a tie for 32nd. Junior Yu-Sang Hou rounded out the team with a 3-over 75.
"Good start for the team with Vivian leading the way," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Tomorrow we need to focus on improved par-3 scoring and finishing stronger our last three holes."
The Cats drew the afternoon tee time for round two and will tee it up at 12:05 p.m. MST. Play begins at 7:30 a.m. MST.
