Nnaji Claims First-Ever Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor
11/11/2019 | Men's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced the first weekly award winners for the 2019-20 season on Monday and Arizona freshman forward Zeke Nnaji picked up the first-ever Freshman of the Week award.
Nnaji, a native of Hopkins, Minnesota, averaged 19.5 points and shot 75 percent from the floor (18-of-24) in his first two collegiate games while also grabbing 4.5 rebounds per game as the Wildcats rolled to a 2-0 record. In the season opener against Northern Arizona, he tallied 20 points which are the most by an Arizona freshman in their debut under head coach Sean Miller who is in his 11th season. It was the most by any Wildcat in their debut since Hassan Adams dropped 22 points in 2002. He followed up that performance with 19 points against an Illinois team that was receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls last week.
Oregon State's Tres Tinkle was named Pac-12 Player of the Week.
Arizona is back in action this week with a pair of games at the McKale Center starting with a Thursday night match-up with San Jose State starting a 6:00 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks. Then on Sunday, The Wildcats host New Mexico State at Noon on Pac-12 Network. Ticktets for both games are available at ArizonaWildcats.com or by clicking the "Buy Tickets" link to the right.
