Red Team Wins Red-Blue Showcase, Dixon, Holmes Win Competitions

The night began with Arizona's Adaptive Athletics wheelchair basketball game, which was followed by player introductions. Following player introductions was the introductions of the evening's judges, Koa Peat, Tobe Awaka, Brayden Burries, Miles Simon, Mike Bibby, and Jaden Bradley. After judge introductions, the competitions started with the three-point contest. Four Wildcats participated in the competition: Caleb Holt and Derek Dixon for the men's team and women's basketball players, Sumayah Sugapong and Priyanka Ponnam. Dixon and Sugapong made it to the final round, with Dixon winning the shootout. Dixon won the competition 18-16.
After the shootout, three Wildcats participated in the dunk contest: Cameron Holmes, Maxim Brnovic, and Ugnius Jarusevicius. Holmes and Brnovic made it to the final round of the competition, with Holmes taking the win.
The showcase ended with a scrimmage between the Wildcats, who split up into two teams. The Red team came out victorious, outscoring the Blue team 42 to 32. The Blue team led at the half, 29 to 11. Ivan Kharchenkov led all scorers, totaling 13 points on the night, including two three-pointers for the Red team. RJ Godfrey recorded 11 points and 5 rebounds for the blue team. Motiejus Krivas recorded 10 points on 4-5 shooting from the field for the red team.
The evening was highlighted by the honoring of the 1996-97 National Championship-winning Wildcat team.
Up next for the Wildcats is an exhibition game against San Francisco on Oct. 13, at the McKale Center at ALKEME Arena. The first regular season game for the team will be on Nov. 2, against UCLA at the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas.
