SAN FRANCISCO – Arizona freshman guard
Nico Mannion was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced. He is the second Wildcat to receive the honor in its inaugural season, joining
Zeke Nnaji who claimed the aware the first two weeks of the season.
Last week, Mannion helped the Wildcats to a 3-0 record to capture the title the Paycom Wooden Legacy in Anaheim. In the three games, he averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 assists and shot 51.4 percent from the floor on his way to being named tournament MVP.
He opened the tournament with 16 points and 11 assists – his first collegiate double-double – and scored the game-winning basket with three seconds left to give Arizona the two-point win. In game two, he exploded for 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting to help UA to the 10-point win over Penn. And then in the championship game, he totaled nine points and seven assists in a seven-point win over Wake Forest.
Arizona is back in action this Saturday in their first true road game of the season, traveling to No. 18 Baylor with tip-off slated for 10:00 a.m. MST on ESPNU.
