Montgomery, Ala. – The Wildcats defeated Ole Miss Saturday to claim the Blue/Gray Tournament Championship. After dropping the doubles point, senior Jonas Maier started the festivities off with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cotter Wilson.

Arizona would go on to defeat the Rebels 4-1, thanks to big wins from junior Alejandro Reguant and sophomores Carlos Hassey and Filip Malbasic.On their way to the championship, Arizona swept Auburn and upset a tough No. 32 Texas Tech team 4-3. The Wildcats have been on a roll, winning seven matches straight since losing to No. 9 Mississippi State.

The deep Arizona team has made massive strives this Spring season and look out for them to continue to turn heads.

"Wow, I'm so impressed with this team," said head coach Clancy Shields. "They play so hard for each other and fight for every inch. I'm so proud of this team and I'm glad they can finally see the fruits of all their hard work. This is one of the most prestigious tournaments in college tennis, and Arizona now owns the trophy. Alejandro the MVP of the tournament was just absolute nails all week. He is the heart and soul of this team, and is such a great leader. I'm so happy for our senior Jonas Maier. We talk so much about the senior moment, and this tournament will be a big part of his legacy. We are excited to bring home some hardware, but we were far from perfect this week. We need to have another great week of practice and get ready for two very good teams in So Cal next week."

The 9-1 Wildcats will travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to play Cal Poly Feb. 28, 2019 at 1 pm (MST) and is in Santa Barbara Saturday to face UC Santa Barbara at 1 pm (MST).
