Arizona Drops Close Game With New Mexico, 5-4

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona Wildcats (6-3) dropped a back-and-forth affair to the New Mexico Lobos (6-3) by a final score of 5-4 on Wednesday night at Hi Corbett Field.

The Wildcats rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth inning to score three runs and take their first lead of the night. However, the Lobos gathered a three-run rally of their own in the top of the ninth to secure a 5-4 victory.

Arizona left fielder Donta Williams flashed some leather with a diving catch in the outfield and also finished the night 1-for-3 at the plate. His two-run single in the bottom of the sixth gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead.

The Cats also saw base knocks from center fielder Matt Fraizer (1x4, R), third baseman Nick Quintana (1x4, R), right fielder Tyler Casagrande (1x1), designated hitter Tate Soderstrom (1x4, RBI), and second baseman Dayton Dooney (1x3, 2B).

Freshman right-hander Quinn Flanagan got the start for Arizona and turned in 3.1 innings of one-run work. Flanagan allowed just one hit and struck out two in his second outing of the season – he did not factor into the decision.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday night as they kick off a three-game weekend series against the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers (5-1). First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 PM MST. Complete ticket information for the entire series can be found online at ArizonaWildcats.com/BSB.
