TUCSON, Ariz. – On the backs of a strong offensive performance and a shutout relief effort, the Arizona Wildcats (7-3) grabbed a 14-6 victory over the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers (5-2) in their series opener on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.

The decisive victory gave Wildcats head coach
Jay Johnson his 200
th career NCAA Division I win. Of the currently active Pac-12 head coaches, Johnson is the second-fastest to reach his 200
th career win, achieving the feat in just 312 games. Johnson collected 72 wins in two seasons at Nevada, and now has 128 with Arizona.

The Wildcats offense collected 13 base hits and drew nine walks on the way to their sixth double-digit run total of the season. Every member of the starting lineup logged a base knock, led by a 3-for-5 performance from
Matthew Dyer. Dyer's night included one run scored and two RBI to go along with his three singles.

Center fielder Matt Frazier (2x4, 3 R, HR, RBI, BB) swatted his first home run of the season, while catcher
Austin Wells (2x4, 2 R, 2 RBI) also registered multiple hits. Third baseman
Nick Quintana (1x2, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB) drove in a pair of runs, giving him 101 career RBI with the Wildcats.

Arizona entered the bottom of the fifth inning in a dead heat with Wisconsin-Milwaukee, tied at 5-5. Dyer broke the tie with a go-ahead single in the bottom of the fifth, and the Wildcats followed with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away from the Panthers. Two more runs in the seventh inning put the game out of reach, and sealed Arizona's 14-6 victory.

The right-handed relief trio of
Nate Brown (0.2 IP),
Zach Sherman (2.0 IP), and
Jonathan Guardado (2.0 IP) held the Panthers scoreless on just two hits over the home stretch of the game. They combined to strike out six Milwaukee batters. Brown (1-0) earned the win, his first of the season.
