Tucson, Ariz. –– The Cats opened up the 2019 outdoor season with the Willie Williams Classic on Friday at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Leading the Cats on day one were
Justice Summerset and
Jordan Geist.
Throws Come Up Big
The men's throwers took the top spot in the hammer and discus throw events.
Grayson Fleming won the hammer throw with a mark of 64.71 (212-3).
Jordan Geist tossed a mark of 61.63m (202-2) to set a new PR and finish third.
Cody Dalton took sixth with a PR toss of 56.64(185-10). In the discus, Geist took first with a toss of 55.05m (160-7).
Cats Can Jump
Justice Summerset took first in his outdoor opener, clearing 2.17m (7-1.5).
Tiana Poirier-Shelton finished first in the long jump with a leap of 5.96m (19-6.75) to set a new PR.
Neysia Howard finished second and
Chandra Hawthorne took third.
200-Meters Deep
Neysia Howard opened up her outdoor debut with a win in the 200-meter dash. The freshman ran a time of 24.20.
Umajesty Williams clocked a time of 20.94 to win the men's contest.
Trevor Volpe clocked a time of 21.57 to set a new PR.
Day two beings at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
