Tucson, Ariz. –– On Saturday, the Arizona track & field program closed out the Willie Williams Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. The sprinters highlighted the final day of competition with
Zakee Washington setting a top-10 Arizona 400-meter dash mark.
Rewrite the Record Books
Junior
Zakee Washington clocked a time of 46.38 in the 400-meter dash to win the event. The Las Vegas native's time is good for a new PR and is the No. 10 mark in Arizona school history. Washington also contributed to the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second with a time of 3:10.18 and the 4x100-meter relay team that registered a time of 40.67 to take second.
FRESH SZN
In the 100-meter dash,
David Egbo finished third overall in 10.71.
Trevor Volpe won his heat, setting his second PR of the outdoor season in 10.712 to finish fourth overall.
Qays Mingo-Long clocked a time of 10.763 to set a new PR and take seventh. Freshman
Keishawn Everly opened his outdoor season with a time of 10.768 for a eighth-place finish. On the ladies side,
Neysia Howard finished fourth overall,
Tiana Bonds took fifth and
Pamela White followed in sixth.
Relays Start Strong
The ladies 4x400-meter relay team of
Neysia Howard,
Tatum Waggoner,
Shannon Meisberger and
Karolina Pahlitzsch opened the outdoor campaign with a time of 3:39.14 to finish first overall. The men's team of
Zakee Washington,
James Smith,
Maksims Sincukovs and
Trevor Volpe came in second with a mark of 3:10.18. The men's 4x100-meter relay team opened with a time of 40.67. Freshman
Keishawn Everly opened,
Zakee Washington ran the second leg,
PJ Austin had the baton third and
David Egbo ran the anchor.
Jumpin' Cats
Karla Teran closed out the Willie Williams Classic high jump contest in second with a clearance of 1.77m (5-9.75).
Diana Ramos came in third with a mark of 1.72m (5-7.75).
Alexa Porpaczy finished fourth.
Tiana Poirier-Shelton took the top spot in the triple jump.
Katie Daily finished first in the pole vault with a lifetime-best clearance of 3.80m (12-5.5).
Up next, the Cats will travel to San Diego, Calif. to compete in the Aztec Invitational beginning on Friday, March 22nd.
